Home Remedies for Serious Snorers

Snoring can disrupt a good night’s sleep, disturb partners as they jab you in the side to get you to stop snoring. Besides the sleepless nights, snoring can also lead to a number of serious health problems.

People who lack a good night’s sleep can develop moodiness, memory problems and feel tired most of the time. People who are sleep deprived are at a higher risk of meeting with an accident. Moderate snorers are people who snore each night, but mostly when they sleep on their backs. Heavy snorers, on the other hand, may have sleep apnea, which is a serious sleeping disorder, and should immediately consult a doctor. There are several home remedies to help the light or moderate snorer and their partners get a good night’s rest.

Remedy #1 – Tennis Ball

Moderate snorers usually snore when sleeping on the back. Cut a shirt pocket from an old shirt and sew the pocket in the mid back of the pajama top. Place a tennis ball in your shirt pocket. If you roll over in your sleep, the discomfort will make you roll back onto your side, without disturbing you at all.

Remedy #2 – Extra Pillows

Extra pillows can be propped to keep your head up to stop snoring. This allows the airways to open up and prevents the collapse of the back of your throat. Try raising the head of the bed by placing several bricks under the bed legs.

Remedy #3 – Humidifier

In case of snoring due to a cold or a congested chest you can relieve your nose by running a humidifier at night in the bedroom. This helps to drain your sinus, improve the airflow and shrink nasal mucous which leads to reduced snoring. You can also apply Vicks VapoRub on your congested chest to ease the blocked nasal passage.

Remedy#4 – Nasal Strips

You may be a snorer without any sinus or coughing problems. In this instance you can wear an OTC nasal strip to relieve the snoring. Breathe Right is an adhesive strip which helps open up the nasal passage to make them less narrow, allowing the air to flow through better.

Remedy#5 – Mouth Guard

An oral appliance known as mandibular advancement device is similar to a mouth guard that you can wear at night. This mouth guard pushes out the lower jaw, which widens the airway and reduces snoring. Studies indicate that the mouth guard is effective up to 90% of the time to help reduce snoring.

The mouth guard lasts for 3 years and costs between $500 and $1,000. If you want a cheaper alternative, you can buy a snore guard called the OTC device. You must first boil it and fix it to the mouth. The OTC also helps widen the airways by pushing the lower jaw forward.

If all these home remedies fail your snoring is very likely related to sleep apnea or another serious sleep-related health issue. If you suffer from snoring, chronic stuffiness and heartburn you should consult a doctor.

Health has always been one of our most crucial concerns but nowadays, despite all the great advances in medicine, health concerns and concerns about the cost of healthcare are more common than ever. The Benefits of Going Green in the Home

Being environmentally friendly is not only good economically, but it just makes sense and there are definitely benefits of going green in the home.

The following tips are designed to be simple, cost-effective ways a person can go green in the home without making drastic lifestyle changes:

1.) Switch from using disposable bags to using fabric bags you can make yourself with a simple pattern or purchase at a low cost.

2.) Buy an inexpensive water bottle to reuse and stop purchasing plastic disposables, which just end up filling up the local landfill and polluting the environment.

3.) Wash your laundry in cold water instead of hot when possible, this saves money on the utility bill and is better for your delicate clothing.

4.) Turn off lights when you leave the room, this can save a small fortune on your utility bill.

5.) Make your trips in the car count, multitask, and schedule all your appointments on the same day and get all your running done in one fell swoop.

6.) Shop for fruits and vegetables at the local farmers market.

7.) Plant your own herb and vegetable garden.

8.) Turn off your computer each night before bed.

9.) Walk and ride a bike to appointments close to home; it saves gas and gets you some exercise and fresh air.

10.) Pay as many bills as possible online, saves you from receiving paper statements or having to write a check-and it’s more convenient.

11.) Before buying anything new, check the local Salvation Army, Goodwill or go to yard sales, you save money and can get some great buys on second hand items which can still be put to good use.

12.) Make your own household cleaners.

13.) Hang your clothes outside to dry when the weather is permitting.

14.) Lower the temperature on your hot water heater-can add up to big bucks in savings.

15.) Unplug any unused appliances and chargers when not in use.

16.) Repurpose useful things and give them a second life, cloth diapers can make great car wash or dust rag, t-shirts can be cut up and used for cleaning, egg cartons, pill bottles and glass jars can make handy storage containers, etc.

17.) Collect rainwater to use for houseplants and garden.

18.) Use cloths instead of paper towels for cleaning.

19.) Put a timer on your shower head to cut down on unnecessary water consumption.

20.) Donate and shop at second-hand and thrift stores whenever possible and you’ll be recycling useable items and supporting the local economy as well.

An eco-friendly lifestyle does not have to be a difficult transition for your family and with a few simple adjustments, it will seem quite easy. Every little bit of effort each of us can do to go green in our home will benefit not only our family, but will teach our children the importance of protecting our environment and not squandering our resources and will drastically reduce the carbon footprint we leave behind.

Selecting a good mattress is probably one of the most important things you can do for your life. Having a good sleep at night can improve your overall health and drive. When you’re looking for good bedroom furniture, make sure you select one that will fit your body type.

Boost Your Metabolic Rate And Boost Your Health

We have all heard of metabolism, but most of us consider it to be something that is just handed down from generation to generation. To a point, your metabolic rate is genetic, but there is much more to it. Your metabolism is your body’s “engine”; it is what takes your calories (fuel) and turns it into energy (like a car uses fuel to move). A little fact that most do not know is that your overall muscle mass controls the strength of your “engine”.

Say, for example, that you are consuming the same amount of food as you did five years ago. Now say that you are not maintaining your muscle mass. The muscle mass that you had five years ago required much more fuel than the muscle mass you have today. Therefore, what does our body do with this now extra fuel? Your body has no choice but to store it as fat.

There is a little more to it, but that is the simple way to look at it. Does this mean that you need to consume less by dieting – maybe, maybe not. What it does mean is that you need to start watching what and how much you are eating. The human body needs anywhere from 1800-2200 calories in a given day in order to function properly. Therefore, you not only need to make sure you are not eating too much, but you need to make sure you are not eating too little; the two will – eventually – have the same effect on your metabolism.

On top of eating the right amount, what you eat is very important. You can eat the right amount of calories for years, but if you are consuming processed foods that are filled with nasty chemicals and toxins from manufacturing plants, you are killing your body and your metabolic rate. Rather than eating these processed foods stick with natural foods like fruits and vegetables, nuts and grains, and dairy and meat products.

As mentioned earlier, muscle is also very important. As you age your muscles will begin to disappear; it is a naturally part of getting older. This muscle loss brings about old age, weakness, frailty, fat gain, metabolic slow down, and more; it can be a very dangerous situation. In order to avoid this all you have to do is work your muscles 2-3 times a week. Work means challenge and push them to the point that you feel it; every muscle group throughout your body. This type of exercise is known as strength training and can save your life and your physical appearance.

If you want to keep a slender, sexy physique you need to keep your metabolic rate at a healthy rate; the only way to do this is to eat right and participate in a proper exercise routine. It is time to forget everything you have tried and been taught that has not yet worked and take control of your life. Keep your body healthy and it will take care of your for years to come.
